    • Chicago Public Library  The Harold Washington Library Center holds a large collection of music on the 8th floor. From Roosevelt University, walk west two blocks - 400 South State Street.
       
  • Naxos Music Library  Listen over the web to the complete recordings found in the Naxos catalog. The catalog includes all recordings by Marco Polo, Dacapo and First Edition.  Naxos is the leader in the classical music recording industry.
     
  • DRAM : Listen to streaming audio on your computer of important American music. DRAM contains folk, opera, Native American, jazz, 19th century classical, early rock, musical theater, contemporary, electronic and beyond. With over 1,500 CDs, DRAM includes recordings from labels New World Records, CRI, Albany, innova, Cedille, XI, Pogus, Deep Listening and Mutable Music labels.

  • RILM  This resource contains abstracts of articles, books, bibliographies, catalogues, conference proceedings, discographies, dissertations, ethnographic recordings, Festschriften, films, iconographies, and videos.

  • The Music Index Online  This resource indexes over 655 international music titles, including past and present personalities, the history of music, forms and types of music, musical instruments from the earliest times to modern electronic instruments. In addition, book reviews; reviews of music recordings, tapes, and performances are indexed. First performances and obituaries are noted.

  • JSTOR  A growing full-text archive of 306 scholarly journals, including 31 music journals.  JSTOR offers complete back runs from the very first issues to a "moving wall" of 2-5 years before the current issue.

  • Music and Theatre Periodical Titles held by the Music Library
    All current issues are kept behind the circ desk in the 11th floor reading room.  Back issues (generally those 1 or more years old) are in the periodicals room on the 10th floor.

Collections & Equipment

  • The music collection has 75,000 books and scores, 25,000 sound recordings, 95 current periodicals titles, and archival material relating to the history of the Chicago College of Performing Arts. While much of the collection is online, some of the library’s older holdings are still in card catalog format. It is always advisable, therefore, to check the card catalog also.
     
  • All music VHS and DVD videos are now in the Performing Arts Library. Please ask at the circulation desk
     
  • The library is equipped with turntables, CD players and tape decks. All equipment requires self-service by library patrons themselves.
