Information Literacy Learning Outcomes Information Literacy - The Association of College and Research Librarians (ACRL) defines information literacy as a "set of abilities requiring individuals to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information." ACRL had developed Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education as well as Objectives for Information Literacy Instruction. Library instruction sessions help students to develop these competencies.
